Mystic (Equine Voices Rescue and Sanctuary)

Mystic was born in 1999 and spent most of her life as a PMU mare hooked up to a collection cup to have her urine harvested for the drug Premarin. In 2007, Equine Voices saved Mystic along with many of her friends. She was one of thirty-five rescued and brought to Southern Arizona. At that time, Mystic was pregnant and already had her six-month-old colt, Kodi, with her. She gave birth to her second colt, Wyatt, in the spring of 2008. Due to past abuses, Mystic did not like humans when she first arrived at Equine Voices. Because she was the lead mare, Mystic protected the other mares in her herd by keeping them a far distance from humans.

Now, after many years of love, patience, and freedom, she allows her caretakers to groom her and even sit on her back. At first glimpse, Mystic immediately draws you in with her large, dark eyes. She leaves you with no doubt that she is focused on your every move, searching your very soul. Then with a quick flick of her head, she turns to do what horses do. Her exquisite beauty and graceful movements linger in your mind long after you’ve seen her, and some say she even looks like a unicorn. If you see her run and play from a distance you may think she is a famous Lipizzaner performing just for you.

Mystic found her sanctuary at Equine Voices.
