Peanut, Big Papa, Jake, and Pete (Black Beauty Ranch)
Pigs Peanut, Big Papa, Jake, and Pete began their lives in a filthy backyard slaughterhouse operation in New York. They lived together with 17 other pigs in a stall filled with ankle-deep mud and waste. Rescuers from several different farm sanctuaries reported that the stench of the pigs’ stall was so strong that they could barely breathe. The pigs, along with 170 other sick animals on the property, had spent their lives waiting for their own slaughter. According to rescuers’ accounts, the makeshift slaughterhouse was equipped with chainsaws and other household tools, proving just how deplorable the operation truly was. When Cleveland Armory Black Beauty Ranch stepped in to offer Peanut, Big Papa, Jake, and Pete a permanent home, they each found their place quickly. Big Papa joined the herd of 42 feral pigs that share his enclosure, keeping an eye on his new friends to make sure everyone is all right. He also fell for one of his companions, a pig named Gloria, and though she has yet to acknowledge his feelings, he has resolved to admire her from afar. Peanut, Jake, and Pete became close friends with Bono, Black Beauty Ranch’s farm pig/feral pig hybrid. Together, they enjoy their freedom, scavenge for treats, wallow on the peaceful farm, and seek out adventures. Thanks to Black Beauty Ranch, the pigs now have permanent care and they will never have to revisit the horror of their past. Big Papa, Peanut, Jake, and Pete found sanctuary at Black Beauty Ranch.
